Looking Back: Moloko – Forever More (FKEK Remix) / Pure Pleasure Seeker (Pizzicato Mix)

Oh Moloko, we do miss thee. It’s all well and good when Roisin Murphy actually gets round to releasing solo material but since she’s too busy looking after her sprog at the moment, we have found ourselves rifling through her former band’s back catalouge to keep us satisfied. And that’s not exactly difficult, when Moloko are in possession of such unrelenting tuneage.
Two personal favourites; firstly the stunning FKEK (AKA Francois K and Eric Kupper) remix of “Forever More”. Whilst the original is a dark, jazzy house track with an electro throb the two esteemed producers take one of Moloko’s best to a much more subtle, techier place with a gently pulsing instrumental, undulating synth lines and vocoder harmonies. It’s epic, amazing and should be a part of all of your lives.
Another excellent rework is the band’s own ‘Pizzicato’ remix of “Pure Pleasure Seeker”. Taking influences from MJ Cole and Sticky‘s string-infused garage this is a remix very much of it’s time, but one that’s also starting to sound surprisingly relevant amongst some of the housier 2-step sounds currently being released on labels such as R&S and Hessle Audio. If like us you’re getting increasingly impatient waiting for new Roisin material, these two might keep you satiated a little while longer.
