Today should be considered an exciting one for all music enthusiasts as ten months after we first encountered a preview, we’ve finally been allowed to hear Major Lazer‘s sweet reggae lilt ‘Get Free’ in full, uniting the crossover dancehall dons with the luscious vocals of Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman. Seemingly casting a niche for herself as indie chanteuse for hire by the Mad Decent roster (Check Rusko‘s album highlight ‘Hold On’ here), Coffman brings some much needed elegance, class and sultriness to Diplo and Switch’s jubilant instrumental. After the relative hard-style misstep that was ‘Original Don’, we needed something properly engaging to restore our faith in the Major Lazer brand and there’s no question that ‘Get Free’ has done just it. Expect the track to become synonymous with expertly edited Vimeo clips documenting attractive hipster’s summer merrymaking.
Even better, it’s free! In exchange for merely your email address you’ll get a crisp 320 of both the original and a Bonde do Rolê remix, which we believe is in the ‘technobrega’ style currently making waves in South America. Head over to the dedicated website and grab a copy for yourself – truly a sunshine anthem in the making.
Major Lazer – Get Free (Feat. Amber Coffman)
EDIT: We’ve just seen that Mad Decent have put up a lyrics video with a few animations of ol’ Major Lazer himself, worth a look if only for Caribbean karaoke purposes (Caraoke?)…
